So I know my old MkII Martini I've owned awhile has some remaining markings under the black patina'd wood. I clean the wood up on the old gun, and bring to life a menagerie of interesting stock markings.....Including reminants of a British broad arrow roundel. topped by an 188? date. Still has the mark and class of arm too. Even unearthed some worn Nepalese markings, not really noticable before. Also uncovered slightly striped pretty wood, and every scratch and ding from ages ago.
That brings us to my old P1853 from the cache. A never ending project thats been on hold for sometime. Last I worked on it was just to sturdy the stock up, not really clean it. Although I did clean it up considerably to have it suitablely clean for glueing back up.
I had noticed but few markings on the wood of this old musket....manmade markings....I mean intentional, manmade markings!
Anyhow, it has what appears to be the remaining circle of a roundel in the usual rightside buttstock position. Doesn't look like there is much detail left to it, but is definately a stamped circle of roundel size. Could also have been caused by a 'hit' on a stray pipe too. Who knows? Also has an item or two in the wood I thought might be random stock graffiti, including a swastika looking doohicky!
Just a standard Nepal surplus P53 second pattern style rifled musket, do any of these show up with stock roundels?
Thanx, Seventeen.
