IV and although it apears almost unfired, someone has messed with the bolt locking lug in the frame. Someone has filed the lug down, you can see the blue removed across the bottom of the frame from the fileing. It apears that the floating bolt held in with the small cross pin is not functioning correctly. It must have been this way from the start, for the pistol had never been taken apart since new. I just stripped it and cleaned it last night. The bolt ( or what ever the part is called) is not being lowered quick enough when the hammer is starting to cock. It is staying in the slot and not being levered by the front of the trigger. In fact is is hardly moving at all, probably less than two or three thousands up or down. I have taken the triggerguard off and tried to see what was going on with the levering of the bolt, but am unable to see what is working or not working on the piece. Nothing apears to be broken or chipped, so maybe a replacement of the bolt might solve the problem. Any one know where I might find a bolt for the old girl. Serial number is 759xxx 1942 to 1943 meaning it is only a couple of years older than me! But then I have a few parts that won't work either! Thanks for any help, John the Toolman

It is not going down when the trigger or hammer starts to move, this locks the cylinder and keeps everything from moving. If more pressure is used to cock the hammer, it will overide the stop and then the will cock. Any suggestions on how to fix this before any damage can happen. Thanks, John.

Most problems with Webley cylinder stops seem to come down to dirt, but idiot owners file the stop down instead of cleaning it! Peter

O/R Posts: 5 (05/04/09 16:58:15) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I found a complete bolt from Apex, it arrived a couple of days ago. The origional bolt was broken, and the new one (unissued) didn't even resemble the old one, for it had been reworked several times. I replaced the bolt with the new one and the Webley now functions great! Thanks to a member of gunboards I had found some S&W cases, and reloaded them with two different 38 caliber bullets. They were sized at .360 ( I even had a Lyman sizer in that size). I had made a set of reloading dies in the lathe while waiting for the bolt to arrive. Today I shot around forty rounds of both loadings. The gun functioned flawlessly, and both loadings shot quite well although a bit low. The hammer was pierceing the primers about fifty percent of the time. So it got a good rounding with an India stone. I am now convinced the Webley was unfired except for the proofing. No marks on the back of the cylinder, around the fireing pin hole, or blast marks on the front of the cylinder. Now there are marks there from shooting this morning! Nifty to get the old girl to function again. I ordered a holster, and recieved an unissued one made in Canada and marked 1943, the same year as the Webley was made! Now I want to find a issue ctg. pouch for it. I haven't been able to find a picture of what they are supposed to look like. Best regards, John the toolman.

It is so good to hear that yet another old girl is got into firing condition and put back into use. It always saddens me when I hear of the old antiques being deactivated or plain chopped up because of stupid ignorant Politicians making dumb laws through misinformation, ignorance and popular demand from an equally ignorant lobby. Pinky It is not a gun. It is not a Weapon. It is not a firearm. It is a single cylinder single stroke internal combustion engine with a free floating piston!
