The front of the Snap cap should be well short of the shoulder of the 577/450 chamber. There is no consistant length measurement for the shoulder in the Martini chamber. The shoulder is also an ogee and not a flat and if the front of the snap cap get into the round section of the shoulder it will spring and lock in the chamber. This is also why some of the chamber inserts stick.

Here is a picture of two types of flexible rods I have tried. The one on bottom is the one available here on the board. The Hoppes rod with t-handle gave leverage for turning the brush and for pulling the rod out of the chamber.



I usually just clean the chamber by wrapping a patch around the brush. The brush hangs onto the patch better than a parker hale style jag and expose more patch to the chamber surface than a slotted jag. You do not need volatiles like paint or lacquer thinnner to the Martini chamber. In fact as long as the wood is on the metal you should not use these chemicals at all.

If you have a real gummy chamber wrap 0000 steel wool around the brush and use that to clean the chamber
