When you come to Cut Bank here are some of the sights to see.
Plains Indian Museum http://www.blackfeetcountry.com/museum.html North American Indian Days http://www.blackfeetcountry.com/naid.html Sweet Grass Hills http://www.montanapicture...etgrass-hills-montana.htm Remington Carriage Museum http://www.remingtoncarriagemuseum.com/ Charlie Russell Museum http://www.cmrussell.org/exhibitions/permanent/ Glacier National Park http://www.nps.gov/glac You will also be about 30 miles south of the US-Canada border. For information on crossing the border check here. http://www.getyouhome.gov/ You will also need to know that Canada has restrictive firearms law and they are very serious about them. Try to take a handgun or hangun ammo into Canada and you may be arrested. At least you will be fined and loose your gun. And don't think you can hide it from them, they train their dogs to find guns. The other thing that can get you in trouble going into Canada is if you have ever been arrested. More than one traveler has been turned back for a DUI arrest years ago. For those of you coming from a ways and would like to shoot in the Alberta shoot and then shoot in the Montana shoot there is plenty to see and do in the area
during the week in between.
I'll let Richard write up in his shoot thread what touristing things available in his part of the world. It is just over 300 miles from the Alberta shoot to the Montana shoot. I can't offer hospitality at my house as I will be having houseguest at the time. What I can offer is a place for you to reload after the Alberta match. You can have your supplies drop shipped to me or you can drop them off on your way to Alberta. If you are in the area prior to the Shoot we might be able to arrange an English style Gopher drive. I might also enlist you in help set the range up. |

Man, to have a day or two to play tourist in Calgary would be nice. Lived there too long, now any visit is chock full of visiting people and shopping to spend
the time to check out the cool places. Places list members might enjoy: Museum of the Regiments, Aerospace museum (and while heading south on the #2hwy stop at
Nanton for their Lancaster museum), Heritage Park is cool, not really much antique firearm-wise, but nice turn of the century all the same, and the Glenbow
Museum has a truly awesome collection of firearms that is a must see. I hear the fort in Ft. Macleod has seen better days, but may be worth the stop anyway,
and Head-smashed-in Buffalo jump is world class.

I need to make a point very clear about the nature of the Montana Shoot. This is not a Shooting Competition. No trophies or prizes will be given.. If you are
coming to this shoot to compete I cordially invite you to go some where else.
This is a gathering of like minded individuals to increase our knowledge of the weapons of the Victorian Era. Yes we will have some structured events. These events will help us better under stand the capabilities of these weapons and have a bit fun also. But importantly having a structrue will help assure our gathering is safe. |

I have posted a letter from ATF in the Reference section that tells the procedures for persons wishing to temporarily bring in firearms from out side the U.S.
for the Montana shoot.
ATF Letter I'll summarize what the letter says, but read the letter for specific details. Any firearm made prior to 1899 does not need an ATF permit to be imported. If your gun is not made with the year of Manufacture you will need a letter of
authenticity or other documentation to establish that it was made prior to 1899.

Okay, I have now been officially made a liar. We will have prizes to give away.
Email today from Malcolm Cobb. He will donate an autgraphed copy of his book Martini-Henry Note-Book. This book will come for the authors private printing. Even I don't have one of those. There is also a very small chance that Malcolm will join us for the shoot a present the book himelf. The book will be given away by drawing with all shooters present eleigble to win. One other thing. I need to get some sort general idea of how many people to expect. So speak up who is tentativley planning on coming if they can? |

Count me in for the Cut Bank Martini-thon! | ||
|
Now bear in mind, I personally can't hit the broad side of a barn, and am a pretty terrible shot in general, (no, I'm not attempting a hustle) but
I'll be attending for the camaraderie, and to visit the beautiful state of Montana.
When I attended the Corona, CA Martini shoot four years ago, there was a frightful moment, where I had to ask the manager of the hotel if I could bring my rifles through his lobby to my room, so I didn't have to leave them in my truck overnight. People were staring at me very hard as I walked through the lobby, trundling my rifles along. I'm hoping the atmosphere in Montana will be a little different. Jason
