Any of you Americans going north for this match need to be aware that you wiull need a passport to get back inthe U.S.
May 31, 2009 Questions and answers on new passport rules By BRIAN TUMULTY Gannett Washington Bureau WASHINGTON - The acting head of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency expects the June 1 implementation of new documentation requirements for land crossings from Canada and Mexico will be smooth. The reason? U.S. citizens who don't have the required documents will be given a sheet of paper telling them they are not in compliance and waved through. But the Customs and Border Protection agency won't say how many days or weeks it will issue just a warning. Question: Why are the changes being made? Answer: Under the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, Congress required that all international travelers must prove their identity and citizenship. The new rules already are in effect for air travel. The requirement will extend to land crossings and sea ports on June 1. Question: What documents are required? Answer: There are several options. Travelers may use a passport, a passport card, an enhanced driver's license or one of three trusted traveler documents. Those three programs are Nexus, Sentri and Fast. The Fast program is for commercial truckers. Sentri is used only at the U.S.-Mexico border. Nexus is used at the U.S.-Canada border. Question:How do I get a passport? Answer: Applications for passports and passport cards are available at U.S. post offices and at www.travel.state.gov. First-time passports cost $100 for applicants 16 or older, $85 for children. (Renewals are $75.) They are acceptable for travel worldwide by air, land or sea. Processing takes one to two months. Expedited passports are available for an additional fee. Wallet-sized passport cards cost $45 for those over 15, and $35 for those younger. (Renewals are $20) They are not valid for international air travel, but may be used at U.S. land and seaports. Question:Why would someone get a passport card instead of a passport? Answer: These wallet-sized cards have radio frequency identification technology imbedded in them that allow them to be swiped on a machine, shortening the time it takes to pass through a land border crossing. Question:Where can I get an enhanced driver's license? Answer: Only four states - New York, Michigan, Vermont and Washington - are offering enhanced driver's licenses at this point, although more are planning to do so. Michigan issues them through the Secretary of State's office. The others do it through their Department of Motor Vehicles. Applicants must wait two to three weeks in New York, Michigan and Washington. Vermont takes five to 10 days. Question:What about children? Answer: Children age 16 and under can satisfy the requirement with a birth certificate. Thanks for all the work, Douglas. This must have taken quite a bit of putting together!
It's shaping up to be a much drier shoot this year, so keep your fingers crossed! (Bug spray, wellies etc still reccomended, just in case!) Countdown has begun. I need to get some more work done on range but have the landwork finished so have a bit more time hopefully. We will be having a buffalo roast this time, and fixings. this should cut down on preperation of the meal as the oven can do the work whilst we play. There will be a nominal charge for this, but you won't be short-changed. Morenshortly! Pukka. The package was sent off to you a few days ago Douglas...Inc VF! |

Funny isn't it?
First time I ever had a firing pin stuck in a primer, and it was caught on film! I put in a stronger spring after that! Thanks for attaching it, Douglas. R. |

We--wife and I--are planning to attend both the Alberta Playday as well as Douglas' Victorian Rifleman Provincial Shoot.
We'll be stopping at Douglas' before heading north to Canada. So we need a little information. Directions? Recommended local lodging? Places to visit before heading back to Cut Bank? It will be a bit of a marathon drive getting there and back, but it should be fun while we're there. |

Richard,
You need to put up a poster here on the board annoucing your shoot so those coming to froim out side Canada will have documentation to show Canada Customs. Canada Customs did ask me for this information last year when I went north. Grant I got your email and will get you what you asked for. |

Thanks for the warm welcome. I didn't see any reason you folks in the hinterlands should have all the fun. Besides, Douglas said I HAD to come and play with him and I couldn't see the point of limiting myself to just one playday. I'm looking forward to seeing so many of the faces whose names I see on the forums. Oh, and Douglas conned me into picking up black powder and other stuff for his cannon shoot and personally delivering it to him. He saves the shipping and hazmat fee and I get to uh, . . . . spend gobs of money of money on gas. |

Accomodations at Spruceview Motel | ||

When Kate from the Spruceview Motel called me back, I booked a double room - in hopes that someone will be willing to split the cost (i.e. half
of $85 + tax seems much better than $75 + tax.) ANY TAKERS???? (If not, I'll call back and change my reservation to a single. She has road crews coming
in for most of the summer, starting next week, and needs the space, I gather. If you are
coming to the shoot, you'll need to make some arrangements soonI)
Actually, she told me that there is one suite with two separate bedrooms (one with a Queen and the other with a Queen and a Double) for $99 + tax, which would easily accommodate three people, each in their own bed. That would be even more economical. She needs to know on the suite by this weekend. ANY INTEREST???

Richard,
Canada Customs wanted some way to verify that I was bringing guns into Canada to go to a legitimate shooting event. After some discussion I offered to show them the post about the shoot here on the board and they gave me a were convince I was not up to no good. A flyer like I made for my shoot would meet that request and simply makes things smoother crossing the border. In order for Canadians coming down for my shoot to apply for an ATF Temporary Import permit they must submit this flyer with their permit application. See page 3 of the post on my shoot. Of course Canadians coming to my shoot who are bringing firearms made before 1899 do not need a temporary import permit. But if they have a copy of the flyer as well as a copy of the letter from ATF that I posted about pre 1899 weapons it should make it simpler to cross the border. They also need somethng verifies the firearm was made befroe 1899. I am going to write a letter to the U.S. Customs Port Director at Sweetgrass and advise him of our shoot, as well as provide him with copy of my Flyer and the ATF Letter. I will also tell him how to date the rifles. He will also have my contact numbers if there are problems. Any Canadian coming down for my shoot who want a specific invitation, please drop me an email at ddgofer@hotmail.com and I will send you one. |

Douglas,
Thanks for the clarification. I will make up a flyer. Anyone coming up from the States who would like a personal invitation just let me know. It may make the crossing smoother! Grant, I hope the accomodation works out with someone to share costs! |

Haven't got any responses yet on my enquiry about sharing motel room costs .....
That has got me thinking that perhaps a "head count" on just who is coming is necessary...... it will help with the planning of the meal and such, anyway ..... So, if you are attending, please post an "I'm coming" message here, ASAP. ********************* To start things off - "I'm coming!"

Hello Richard,
It is that time of year again and so I will be present and accounted for this year for sure plus one other person a friend from the Island here. Richard, can I stay at your place again this year? As a bribe I am bringing some good port again! Grant, Gary Kangas is coming as well so he might be interested in sharing the room with ya if the two of you could stand each other. He is in Wyoming right now so I can't get a hold of him to ask him till he is back on the 16th. Branko |

Hullo Branko,
Glad you can make it! Yes, you can stay here, along with the barrel of port....(!) it's cramped but you're used to it! When may I expect you? A head-count is good, as we have to order the meat. Grant; Can I ask if you would be able to find the time to print/draw your admirable idea of a target for the volley fire? It would be most appreciated if you could!! I still have some gongs to make, and a stand for the bayonet dummies,.....and I Think I can even cut the grass before the event! Bob 303smle , It appears Kate may get booked up very soon, so if you wish to make arrangements with her, this weekend may be the deadline. Not wanting to push anything, but don't want you to be disappointed either.... R.
