For the volley shoot instead of gongs, use rounds of sheet rock.

Douglas,
The volley shoot is always very loud and there are clouds of smoke so maybe just using the paper targets might be the better way to go. Richard, I do not have a sword other than a not so well made repro of a Frankish one and it is a about a 1000 years out of context. I just cant see myself as an ossifer. Original Yataghan and the word cheap usually do not go together but you never know if you see one even if it is beaten up scoop it. Branko |

Gee, can I be the Officer? Can I, huh?!?
I have swords of suitable patterns in use during the Victorian era - a Rifle officer's sword (original), a basket-hilted Highland officer's sword (repro) and an Infantry officer's sword (also repro, which I actually purchased fairly recently in order to acquire the scabbard to use in lieu of the very rust-mottled original scabbard that came with my Rifle officer's sword .....)

Just rather "pointed" ..... to match the user's head, presumably .....

Well, the 65th Battalion, Mount Royal Rifles, apparently enjoyed playing in the mud .....
They received their unit nickname - "The Alligators" - during the advance of the Alberta Field Force, when they waded right into the muskeg to help the artillery battery extricate a field gun which had become bogged down so badly the horses couldn't move it -
Say ..... does this remind anyone of anything?
(By the way ..... where is Brett, anyway? He hasn't checked in on this year's thread yet.)

For you Americans going to Canada via a land border effective June 1st there are new travel document requirements to cross the border. Visit this website for
details http://www.getyouhome.gov/html/eng_map.html
Here is a synopsis of what you need. Get Compliant by June 1, 2009! Simplify your travel checklist! On June 1, 2009, U.S. citizens returning home from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean or Bermuda, by land or sea, will be required to present one of the travel documents listed below. Many of these documents are already available, and obtaining one now will ensure that you are ready on June 1, 2009, when they will be required. U.S. Passport - This is an internationally recognized travel document that verifies a person's identity and nationality. It is accepted for travel by air, land and sea. U.S. Passport Card - This is a new, limited-use travel document that fits in your wallet and costs less than a U.S. Passport. It is only valid for travel by land and sea. Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) - Several states and Canadian provinces/territories are issuing this driver's license or identification document that denotes identity and citizenship. It is specifically designed for cross-border travel into the U.S. by land or sea. Trusted Traveler Program Cards - NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST enrollment cards can speed your entry into the U.S. and are issued only to pre-approved, low-risk travelers. The cards are valid for use at land or sea; the NEXUS card can be used in airports with a NEXUS kiosk. Special Groups - Information for Parents and Children, Native Americans and Boaters. Knowing what documents are required and having them ready when you return home will help streamline the entry process and ensure your return to the U.S. is as smooth as possible. |

Americans going north need to know you must stop at U.S.Customs on the way out and declare your firearms. That is the law. While at U.S. Customs ask for a
Customs registration form. This will serve as your proof when you return to the U.S. that you had the gun in the U.S. when left. If flying it is best to get
with Customs before you leave and get the form.
You can also get one of these forms for non US made cameras, computers, binoculars and other serial numbered foreign made items such items. Here is a link to information on taking a gun into Canada. www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/factsh...itin_e.asp Be sure and declare firearms and ammunition to the Airline when you check in. Ammunition when flying must be in containers--no bandoliers or loose rounds. Do not volunteer to the Airline the fact that your ammo is loaded with black powder. You will just create an issue where there is none. The is no restriction on cartridges loaded with black powder. The regulation allows loaded cartridges and doesn't differentiate between smokeless or black powder. Regulations prohibit the carrying of black power on board aircraft. Airline employees don't seem to understand that doesn't apply to cartridges but bulk cans and flasks of powder. If you tell them your cartridges are black powder and they tell you can't take you ammo, that's your stupid! Well Fellows, It's only about two months to this year's shoot. I cut the grass early while frost still in ground! If it's wet again this year, we'll have to move to another spot. (Don't forget wellies!) I know we are going to be down a few on last year, but is it too soon for a rough head-count, to see who's going to make it? This year's theme will be; The North -West Rebellion. Date, 20th &21st June. If you turn up sooner, that's great!, but you may get press-ganged into helping with last minute stuff. Also, no rush to leave afterwards, as long as you can amuse yourselves if farm stuff calls. Bring your own refreshments to keep you going for the day. Sat. morning; 10.00 AM Volley fire!......................(5 rounds) Then...............................Bayonet charge! (Great idea, Grant!) Through the day, but in no particular order; The Double D's Provincial,..........................13 rounds. 50 yds, Any position, can use sling, but no rests. The Double D's Provincial handgun.............13 rounds, 25 yds. one-handed and standing on back legs. The ISSO,..................................................15 rounds. 50 yds, Offhand and any position. Open shooting, to 200 yds, Gongs, Big game targets, etc. Afternoon tea, at about 4.30 pm....(Everything stops for tea!) Dinner, 6-ish, or when we get sick of shooting!....(Buffalo roast and fixings) Visit 'till we all fall asleep. Sunday; 10 am start, if we can........(some shell-shock manifests itself usually...............and comparison of bruises can take time....) Provincials can be shot by anyone who couldn't fit it in on Saturday. Open shooting, Clay pigeons. Short big-game trail walk. Lunch pot luck & eating what we couldn't eat yesterday. Any hardy souls still around Sunday evening, are invited to go to a restaurant with us for a final get-together. (Going Dutch) Anyone can stop and play longer if they wish. More details to follow. Pukka.
