I'm running out of real guns. So your best defense against getting a Darra repro is to learn what a Victoria crown looks like and recognize the style of the Enfield lettering and proof marks. Some of the fakes are good, but most are just abominable knockoffs, and shooting them is certainly an interesting question. I wouldn't.

And for that matter, selling a Darra repro with a fake date probably requires an FFL, since they were made, like, last Thursday. It may be illegal since the dates and proof marks are forgeries.

I'd rather not list specific auctions that I think are fake. I don't want some seller emailing me with threats because I cost him a sale. Just go on gunbroker.com, type "Martini" into the search box, and look at what comes up. From the guide above, you should be able to tell the hounds from the foxes.

Well, I don't think SOG is entirely to blame. They were trying to capitalize on the Nepal hype by coming out with the Afghan cache, which were all Khyber Pass specials. They altered their sales tactics when I and a few others pointed out to them that these guns are new manufacture with forged dates on them, therefore requiring an FFL to transfer them.

That threw a real kink into their plans, and since they had to move them, they apparently just flogged them off to other dealers for cheap. Navy Arms ended up with a bunch. They get *really* hostile when you point out to them that they're not what they claim to be, though the last time I saw them, they were tagged as being brought back from Afghanistan with no mention of place of manufacture. Let the suckers decide for themselves.

A couple of the sellers on gunbroker have been told that they're misrepresenting their goods and have told me to go preform an anatomically unlikely act. I wouldn't mind them selling these guns if they just represented them for what they are. I'd really hate to see our hobby suffer because of fakes and misrepresentation.

By the way, did you catch the Martini with the "25" marking? Is that supposed to be 25 gauge, or .577? That only belongs on a Snider.

I don't think US servicemen can bring back the .303's, so they're making more in .45 cal to cater to the weekly bazaar crowd. Good on 'em for bringing back a war trophy, boo hiss to the unscrupulous dealers trying to make a buck off of other people's lack of information.
