The markings on the barrel tell most of the story. You guys from Australia know all about them, but there are very few here in the U.S. Around 1949 the Lithgow factory was idle and a sporting goods retailer got them to produce a .22 Hornet sporter on Lee Enfield actions. They made a decently shaped sporting stock and very ingeniously fitted a hornet magazine from a Savage Model 23D. This one feeds perfectly and was dead on at 100 yards with the open sights. This is similar to Springfield making some .22 Sporters in the 1930s.
