I'm having a bit of trouble finding 577/450 snap caps and thought I'd ask around here if anybody knew where a Canadian could get some. Any info helps.
Thanks

I don't know where you might find one, but you can make one up from a spent casing and silicone sealer in the primer pocket. Just fill the pocket and when
dry, trim it flush with a razor blade. The silicone will wear out with use but a little digging and a fresh dab is all that's needed to start over.
For lack of a true snap cap, it will hold you over until you find one. |

Martini-Henry Snap Caps | ||
|
Hi,
I made a couple of snap caps for my Martinies by turning down a pair of alluminium 20 bore shotgun snap caps. I was lucky that I found a bolt with the correct thread to fit into the threaded hole that contains the brass "cap" and spring. It was a simple matter to chuck it in a lathe and turn it down to fit. By the way the modified snap cap fitted all of my Sniders without turning the rim down a little but would not fit any of my Martinies without this slight rim reduction. Gwyn |

Kynamco (Kynoch) in the UK sell them. Email them for the Canadian distributor.

Thanks for the help, especially on the Kynoch idea, cause I don't have any old brass I could use, but good ideas all around

I had trouble finding 577-450 snap caps for my sporter Martini here in the US, and the one that I made with silicone in the primer pocket didn't seem to
cushion the heavy fall of the firing pin enough. The nice 577-450 snap caps made out of brass were out of my price range (couldn't find them anyway), so I
took a fired 577-450 case and drilled out the primer pocket so that one of the aluminum action proving snap caps by A Zoom with the spring-loaded primer insert
would press fit (I used one in 30-30, they are a common mail order item, I got it from Midway, but they are probably common in Canada). I countersunk the hole
so that the 30-30 rim was flush with the 577-450 case; it took about 10 minutes to make and cost about $8. For me, that's cheap insurance against breaking
a firing pin that I can't easily replace.
