I won the bid on this rifle in March and am still waiting for the paperwork to be sorted for importation as it is coming from Germany. It is a Schmidt-Rubin Model 1896/11 chambered for the 7.5x55 Swis G11 cartridge.
These are the sellers photographs but more detailed ones will be taken when it arrives.
On January 8th 1869 the Swiss became the first nation to adopt a magazine repeating rifle using a metallic rimfire cartridge - the Model 1869 Vettereli in 10.4x38mm.
The rifle that followed came from the amalgamation of Lt.Col.Rudolf Schmidt's rifle system, and Lt.Col. Eduard Rubin's jacketed bullet. Various models were issued to the Swiss Arm between 1889 and 1956. The serial number of my new acquisition confirms that it was manufactured in 1906.
