K(estell) KADET

Here's a nifty little cartridge you can play with.

1. Use either production .303 Savage brass or
some reformed .303 Savage. (I used some

      from Buffalo Arms).

2. Purchase a set of LEE PRECISION 7.62 X 39 dies
and order a custom case length

trim gauge for a .308" bullet with a
length of 1.516" and a #11 shell holder.

3. Trim the .303 Savage brass before
resizing.

4. Use a little Imperial Sizing was and...

I have 4 cartridges that might be interesting. Two are based on the .357 Magnum and the other two on the .357 Maximum.

This gets a little convoluted ... so bear with me.

#1 I bought 2 more .30 Mauser dies and set them up to make a shoulder and neck on both a .357 Magnum and the other on a ,357 Maximum. Once you are set up,
you still need to order custom reamers ... but it makes a neat set of cartridges.

#2 With the next series, I bought a die set from...

A necked down .357 Magnum has to be an attrative economical if somwhat unadventurous round. Parent brass is cheap and plentiful, it leaves plenty of meat in
the chamber walls, bullet size and weight chosen to suit whatever the target may be.

My pet Cadet round would have been something like .455 Webley or similar, but the pressures would have been low and trajectory a bit loopy. No problem at

I know well that I'm no expert in regarding these things so bear with me. You could use the 357 maximum cartridge necked down in a 7.62x39 full length
sizing die. This would give you the shoulder and neck length of the 7.62x39. But the circumference of the 357 max case is I believe smaller that the parent
cartridge. You could have dies made up though. This would be benficial in that you wouldn't have to mess around with major changes to the extractop and
being a rimmed case would be a...

Sounds like a very interesting round to me !

My buddy and I both have small action Martinis in 450 No.1 ( not to be confused with 450 No.1 carbine !! ) that are much bigger in base dia. However it is a
very low pressure BP cartridge.

To me it sounds like you are pushing the limits a little. Can you trust yourself to keep the pressures low ?

Thanks Double D ... and the more I'm thinking about it ... I'm in COMPLETE agreement. The largest caliber I ever heard of on a Cadet action was .44
Magnum (.457" base diameter), but I KNOW I wouldn't be comfortable with that! Even the .41 Magnum has a base diameter of .434" ... so with
this cartridge having a base diameter of .440" (I've seen it as high as .443) ... it's just too close for comfort.

The cartridge works fine in the Uberti High...

This will probably fit the Cadet actions, but it is getting well into the upper limits of safety, pressure wise for the the little Martini. I realy don't
think the action will break. I wouldn't be surprised if the little 3/4 in barrel tenon couldn't take the pressure and the chamber swelled. Becareful
with this one.
