I could not resist my favourite preferences - engraved sporting carbine (I will probably be drummed out of the forum for this!!) and octagonal barrel

The usual &quot;Whitworth patent&quot;, .450 &amp; .483 wth proof marks

Sights are interesting - lots of them with an optimistic 1500 yard maximum!

			<description><![CDATA[ On cleaning my Monkeytail I noted that the nipple is quite different than the standard Enfield  musket nipple. While threads are the same,  it is shorter, with
a rounded bottom, and most significantly, mine has some kind of silvery-looking liner (platinum?). Also, one shoulder of the Monkeytail nipple is stamped NR.
Is this standard?

			<description><![CDATA[ Hello to all.......I shot the Monkey Tail rifle at Bisley this morning, 300 yards.

The ammunition was made up as follows: Rizla King Size, rolled on a former, allowed to dry. Pushed former out using base of 405 grain 457 bullet, rolled paper
and bullet between fingers until lube adhered to paper. Used drop tube to load 70 grains of medium black powder, then twisted open end of paper and tied off
with thin cotton thread.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt">I came across this Capping Breech Loader at the Bisley Arms Fair on 29th March. It has no name and its
appearance suggests that it was possibly made in Belgium with an eye to the British Breech Loading Trials in 1864 as it has British style sights and fore-end
coupled with a very Franco-Belgian lock area.</p>

			<description><![CDATA[ <p>On Saturday I shot my Monkeytail rifle (as in the longer version) in a &#39;German ring-target&#39; competition. The target is a cast iron disc about 4&#39;
in diameter with 13 2&#39;-wide scoring rings (&#39;1&#39; being the outermost ring and &#39;13&#39; the bull). One fires 12 shots at it at 100m offhand. The
comp is generally a &#39;any breechloader, any sights except magnifying&#39; one. There were about 20 shooters mostly using repro sharps, high walls, etc with

			<description><![CDATA[ For some time I have been trying to create an accurate load using the Lee .454-298 Minie bullet, but without success.  For my latest attempt I decided to use
thinner paper so that the bullet would have the best possible chance to expand into the rifling.  Rather than use nitrate soaked paper I used untreated
cigarette paper.  To cut a long story short neither the pure lead bullets nor the soft alloy bullets would group at 50 yards.
